We like the tag line used by the Post Traumatic Growth web site "Positive Changes in the Aftermath of Crisis"
According to the PTG web site some researchers speculate that PTG is a kind of resilience, while others suggest that resilience plays an important role in the development of PTG. Highly resilient individuals may have stronger coping skills and are less likely to struggle with the psychological consequences of trauma, but are also less likely to experience as many opportunities for change that proceed from the emotional wrestling with trauma.
What does seem to be true is that good things can come out of difficult experiences, and that we should be open to exploring what that means. See what George Bonanno has to say about resilience.
