Collaboration: Webster’s New World Dictionary defines both collaboration and cooperation “as working together”. We distinguish between these two words in a specific way. Collaboration involves proactive understanding and use of the systems, structures, and processes required to work together effectively over time. Cooperation is working together in the moment without understanding why or how it happens.
Collaborative Leading: A way of learning and working together that involves all of our levels of being – physical, emotional, mental, spiritual – in a shared search for meaning in order to better manage the complex issues of our time. Collaborative Leading is a process that leverages people, time, and ideas to discover solutions to complex challenges. It is a way of consciously relating that brings out the best in ourselves and others.

Developmental Organisation: An organisation structured so that it undergoes deep learning and develops, as opposed to an organisation that goes through superficial changes, and stays essentially the same.

Doing (see also Being and Having): The state that many people are caught up in. Like hamsters on a wheel, we keep ourselves busy, yet everything stays the same.
Emergence: A concept described by John Holland. How simple components can interact to generate infinite possibilities, as in a chess game.
Emotion: An essential component of our being that businesses and individuals ignore at their peril.

Expectancy: Is a positive attitude of being open to outcomes rather than trying to control them.
Extravert: Described by the Myers Briggs Type Indicator as a person whose attention is focused outside of themselves.
Facilitator: The person who designs and manages the process in a business meeting or seminar. The leader and participants focus on the content of the meeting.
Flowchart: A graphical representation of the action steps performed to produce an output which may be a physical product, service, or information.
Future-scaping: A way of designing our future. Like landscaping, it turns possibilities into realities and makes a lasting difference.
Future Search: A method of designing the future developed and described by Marvin Weisbord.
Golden Innovation: Criteria for innovation developed by Eleanor and Mark Donohue and described by Barbara Marx Hubbard in Conscious Evolution.
Ground Rules: Guidelines for conduct during a meeting.
Having (See also Being and Doing): A source of motivation i.e. people are motivated by what they want to have.
Higher Laws: The laws of cause and effect govern the realm of action, but the higher laws exist in the realms of the implicate order, and we must seek to understand them also.
Higher Self: That part of our being which is wise and all knowing, and which mediates between our every day consciousness and the soul plane.

Holographic Universe: The whole is present in every part, as described by Michael Talbot.
Holon: A Holon is a part of the universe which is complete and consistent in itself, but is also a necessary integral part of a greater system which encompasses it. For example, an Atom is a holon. Atoms are complete in themselves. Atoms however can join together to form molecules. Molecules are made of atoms. Molecules encompass atoms. Molecules are more complex than atoms. Molecules can be organised into a basic living cell. Cells are holons which can form a body organ. Body organs can form a complete being...etc
Homeostasis: Maintenance of stability by coordinated responses that automatically compensate for environmental changes. A structure that is designed to keep things the same.
Implicate Order: As defined by David Bohm the implicate order is the underlying causal order—the deeper realm—that shapes not only the patterns of mind and of matter but the patterns that connect them. Bohm suggests that the implicate order surrounds and interpenetrates the seemingly indeterminate, random domain of quantum events and directs the processes as they unfold.
Infrastructure for Collaboration: Before a new technology (such as the car) can be widely used, new infrastructures (roads, service stations, fuel supplies) have to be deployed. Before collaboration can happen, the infrastructure has to be put in place.
Introvert: Described by the Myers Briggs Type Indicator as a person whose attention is focused on their inner world.
Intuition: An essential component of our being that businesses and people ignore at their peril.
Karma: The law of cause and effect applied to the lessons we learn in our lives.
Kinesthesia: Sensing what one is experiencing by focusing awareness internally on one’s body position, movement, and feeling.

Life Purpose: Something we all have, even if we are not yet aware of it! - Something significant yet to be accomplished.
Manifesting: If we believe in the strong anthropic principle, that there are other benevolent sentient beings in the universe, then we do not have to create on our own, we receive help in manifesting a sustainable future.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: A method of describing people in types based on factors such as introversion and extraversion, intuition, sensing, perceiving, judging, thinking, and feeling.
Mental Model: The way we think about the world. It includes emotional and intuitive insights, and is not restricted to analytical understanding.
Metalaw: Another word for higher law.
Natural Agenda: Follow the natural agenda to align and mobilise the energy of the group.
New Science And Medicine: Originating after the industrial era, they are based on beliefs that are post-Darwin and post-Einstein.

Paradigm: A widely held framework of thinking that is not easy to transcend even in the face of compelling evidence (for example, believing the earth is flat).
Proactive: Anticipating what will happen and taking appropriate action.
Procedure: A specific description of how work is done based on a process map.
Process: The sequence of steps by which an input is transformed into an output.
Responsibility Chart: A way of showing how the work to be done is assigned to specific people.
Ritual: “Is any action we do with intent to keep the channel open” (Christina Baldwin, Calling the Circle). How we remind ourselves that we are connected to the universal wisdom, and remember we can follow the footsteps of those who have gone before.
